Half the price? Yeah right!

By admin | Jul 7, 2008

When Apple announced the new iPhone, they claimed it was twice as fast at half the price. Sound almost too good to be true, and as usual, it is. AT&T announced the pricing plan and as you could expect, it’s expensive as hell! Plans start at $69.99 for the most basic one. But that’s not all, those prices only apply if you are “upgrade eligible”, wich means you already have to have an AT&T subscription. If you don’t, you’ll pay $399 for the 8 gigabyte iPhone, wich is TWICE the price they announced.
Unexpectedly, AT&T also announced a no-contract iPhone, wich will set you back $499 for the 8 gigabyte version and $599 for the 16 gigabyte phone. This is probably what they will be selling here in Belgium when it becomes available, since it’s illegal here to sell locked cellphones. So, half the price my ass!
Buyers will be required to activate their phones at the moment they buy them, and will be required to show photo ID and a social security number (and probably a fingerprint, DNA sample, retinal scan, …). Of course, real Apple fanboys won’t mind this, and will be happy to sell their soul and their first born to Steve Jobs for another shiny, expensive Apple gadget.
