By admin | Jun 26, 2008

Openmoko has begun shipping the Neo Freerunner phone to distributors in Europe and Asia. Seems like the Linux-based open source smartphone will finally become available to customers! Until now, it only has been available for developers. The Openmoko Neo Freerunner is an open source Linux-based smartphone. Not only the software but also the hardware is open source, meaning it can be used to develop other devices, such as GPS units. Some of the hardware specs:

  • 640×480 pixel touch screen
  • Built-in GPS
  • Bluethooth and Wifi
  • Tri-band GSM and GPRS

Check out the full specs list for more information. The phone will probably cost around $400.
