Gigabyte’s new UMPC, the M528, has finally received its price tag. It will cost $750 when it gets launched in Taiwan. The computer will have an 800Mhz CPU, 800×480 resolution touch screen, an autofocus camera, 4 gigabytes of storage space, GPS navigation and 3G network capabilities.
To me, this looks more like an oversized cellphone. A slide-out keyboard, like many UMPCs have, isn’t easy to work with. Good for short texts but not for long documents. You have to hold the computer in your hand, because if you put it on a table you look at the display at an uneasy angle. A laptop-like display, like the Asus EEE, is better if you want to use an UMPC for longer texts.
