Tritium Keychain

By admin | Mar 31, 2008

Tritium is a radioactive isotope of hydrogen that can be used for lights that almost never run out of power. How does it work? The light on this keychain is a small glass vial coated with a fluorescent dye and contains a small amount of tritium. When the radiation of the tritium strikes the dye, it lights up! Don’t be scared though, the radiation isn’t even strong enough to penetrate the glass, so you’re perfectly safe. Tritium has a halflife of approximately twelve years, so the light should last pretty long!
