Wind powered cellphone charger

By admin | Jun 15, 2007

For those among us who like to go camping but don’t want to withdraw completely from civilization, this is a must have. Mobile phone operator Orange has announced a wind-powered cellphone charger, as part of their sponsorship of the Glastonbury festival.
This small wind turbine can be mounted on a tent. It charges a battery, wich in turn is used to charge a cellphone. I guess the purpose of this is to keep a steady charging current; otherwise, placing an extra battery between the phone and the generator seems like a waste of energy.
What I would like to see is a combined wind-solar charger for regular nickel-metal hydride batteries. Something you could set up on a balcony or something and use to charge regular batteries.
