Self-powered torch

By admin | Jun 1, 2007

Most of us probably have a torch lying somewhere in a drawer or cupboard. It often lies there unused for years, and when you finally need it one day… dead batteries! This flashlight solves this problem. It doesn’t contain batteries. Instead, there’s a coil of copper wire in it, and a permanent magnet. When you shake the torch, the magnet bounces back and forth between two springs and passen through the coil, inducing a current. This charges a capacitor, wich then powers a led. Shaking the torch for half a minute generates enough electricity to power it for about five minutes.
